Our Background

Migrant Health Alliance Ireland (MHAI) was founded to address the significant challenges faced by Ireland’s migrant and ethnic minority communities in accessing healthcare services. While all migrants theoretically have equal access to public health services, language barriers, cultural norms, unfamiliarity with the system, and religious considerations often limit their engagement with these services. Additionally, migrants frequently lack representation in research, policymaking, and healthcare service design, leaving their specific health needs unaddressed.

MHAI bridges these gaps by building trust, advocating for equitable healthcare, and empowering migrant communities to engage with health services and systems effectively. Coordination and advocacy remain central to MHAI’s operations, enabling impactful collaboration with stakeholders and targeted policy influence.
