Who We Are

Migrant Health Alliance Ireland (MHAI) is a dynamic, community-led organisation committed to advocating for and enhancing the health and well-being of all migrants in Ireland, with special attention to vulnerable groups such as those with disabilities and youth requiring mental health support. Founded in 2022 by Lora Ruth Wogu, MHAI emerged from the need to bridge information gaps between migrants, healthcare providers, and governmental agencies. As a company limited by guarantee (CLG), we stand as a recognised charitable entity devoted to inclusive health promotion and robust patient and public involvement in research.

Our Mission

Our mission is to empower migrant communities in Ireland by advocating for accessible and equitable health services, with a particular focus on enhancing support for mental health among migrant youth and improving accessibility for migrants with disabilities.

Our Values

We envision a society where all migrants in Ireland, regardless of age or disability, have the knowledge, means, and opportunities to lead healthy lives in a welcoming and supportive environment.

What Drives Us

Our strategic direction is driven by a foundational commitment to inclusivity and a core belief in the power of health literacy to empower individuals and communities. We place a strong emphasis on addressing the specific needs of migrant youth and individuals with disabilities, shaping our initiatives to meet these critical areas through extensive consultations with affected migrant groups and health professionals.

Our Journey

MHAI’s journey began with advocacy at its heart, spearheaded by our founder’s deep involvement in community and patient advocacy, starting with our first educational session in Belfast as part of the Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Ireland project. This marked the beginning of our commitment to becoming a pivotal voice in migrant health advocacy in Ireland.

Looking Forward

Guided by our strategic plan for 2025-2027, MHAI is dedicated to deepening our impact through enhanced partnerships, increased awareness campaigns focusing significantly on disability and youth mental health, and a robust approach to financial sustainability. We are continually learning, growing, and adapting to better serve the diverse needs of the migrant community and contribute to a healthier, more inclusive Ireland.
